DS-160 digital photo specifications
The US DS-160 visa application requires a digital photo measuring 2×2 inches (51×51 mm) square, 240×240 to 600×600 pixels, in JPEG format between 54KB and 10MB. The background must be plain white or off-white. The head must be between 50% and 69% of the image height, eyes open, neutral expression, and no glasses in most cases. Non-compliant photos are the top reason for DS-160 processing delays.
Create a DS-160 compliant photo
Take a straight-on portrait against a white wall in even light. Upload to our 2×2 Passport Photo tool, crop to the template, and download JPEG. If the file exceeds 240KB or falls below pixel minimums, our tool adjusts dimensions. Compress to under 240KB with Resize to 100KB if the portal rejects the upload. Bring a printed 2×2 copy to your embassy interview.
